Victim Impact Statement sample

Being the victim of a crime can be hard in many ways. The justice system doesn’t do a good job of giving the victim a voice. One way to have your voice heard as a victim is to share a Victim Impact Statement at the Sentencing of the defendant. Prosecutors don’t often properly prepare victims, or let them know what factors a judge is supposed to consider at sentencing. My family and I were victims of a crime in November 2024, and the defendant was just sentenced this week. This week’s #FreedomFightingTool is the Victim Impact Statement I prepared for this sentencing hearing. As you can see, I researched the relevant statutes and court rules, and acknowledged the factors the court must consider. Keep this for reference in case you or someone you know ever find yourself needing to make a similar statement in court. Check out https://restorefreedomkh.com/0e3v

SCOTUS Freedom Fighting Tool

More and more Americans are keeping a watchful eye on cases coming out of SCOTUS.  Although it’s imperative we remember that SCOTUS cannot make LAW (and the concept of case “law” does not comport with our Constitutional Republic), it’s also important that we know how to read a court case for ourselves, so we can truly understand the impact of the ruling made, and not simply rely on others to summarize it for us. With that in mind, this week’s #FreedomFightingTool is a 2-page explanation of How to Read a US Supreme Court Opinion. Remember, knowledge is power . . . don’t rely on others to have all the knowledge – or power. Check out https://wp.me/aecX6i-3DZ

Bad News in your court case? Have hope…

Did the judge in your case just issue a decision that misapprehends an important point of law or fact? What can you do? Depending on your jurisdiction and stage of the case, you may be able to file a Motion for Reconsideration (or Rehearing) – this asks them to reconsider before it’s finalized – or a Motion for a Written Opinion – if granted, this could lay the jurisdictional groundwork for your case to be taken to the next highest court. Check out a real-life example here: https://wp.me/aecX6i-3wg

Take that, bureaucracy!

The Supreme Court in a vote of 6–3 overturned the so-called Chevron deference, a bureaucracy-empowering judicial doctrine that critics say led to the explosive growth of the U.S. government in recent decades. The 40-year-old judge-invented doctrine holds that an agency’s interpretation of a statute it administers is entitled to deference unless Congress has said otherwise. https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/23pdf/22-451_7m58.pdf
