Some toxins to watch out for are in our food & others in our personal care products. Brominated Vegetable Oil (BVO) is found in our foods. Why don’t you want it? It can cause neurological and reproductive harm and thyroid toxicity. Bromine, a component of BVO, is a halogen that can accumulate in the body and potentially cause thyroid issues, as it can interfere with iodine uptake (Guzman et al., 2018). Additionally, brominated compounds have been linked to developmental and reproductive toxicity (Guzman et al., 2018). In response to these concerns, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has proposed a ban on BVO in food, although it has not yet been finalized.
